DRAWING // RECENTLY

My favorite "Ricks", if you will.  Liddol baby cop Rick, farmer Rick, and feral Rick.

Man I just am loving The Walking Dead the past couple of episodes.  They must have done something with the writing team or whatever, but the past four/five episodes have been phenomenal.

My fave fam.

I read a super sick apocalypse fanfiction where the main character is "the Word," because everyone has forgotten how to read and write.  Since he writes for a long time, the ink stains his fingers, and he sucks on the nib since the ink freezes, so his mouth and the lines around it are also stained.  The imagery from that fic really stuck with me.

I'm "re-watching" That 70's Show from the beginning (I use quotes because I never actually watched it in full, just blocks of episodes here and there when I used the computer/television) and HYDE.  I love Hyde, and I also love Donna, and dang it Donna!  Choose Hyde over Eric!!!!  Also Donna is seriously beautiful.

MY LAST SOMETHING

Inspired by Elsa Billgren's list.

My last screenshot of my phone // Accidental screenshot of my lock screen.  It's the romance tarot card art of Dorian from Dragon Age: Inquisition.

My last purchase // When I was at Wegman's on Sunday, I bought a bottle of Aura Cacia almond oil, an Alba Organics acne wash, and a new bottle of Lubriderm body lotion.  On Friday I got Aveda's Intensive Damage Treatment, the Earth Month candle, RMS Beauty's Living Luminizer, and EXO's natural nail polish remover.

My last listened podcast // I go through stages of listening to the RT podcast every week and then taking a break for a couple of weeks.  I'm currently listening as I'm writing this.

My last incoming text message // "Why??" from my friend Lucas, responding to my question if he was busy on Monday.  My work meeting was canceled and it was supposed to go up to 70 degrees.  Amazing!

My last tagged photo on facebook // A selfie I posted a month ago.  I haven't really done much recently.

My last pinned image // Really liked her hair and the hair comb.

My last sent text message // "Busy today?" to my friend Irene that I haven't seen in almost a year.

My last video game played // Fallout: New Vegas.  Ever since I changed the difficulty back down to very easy it's been way more fun.  I'm all about the story and not about trying a situation over and over again.

My latest find // A couple of weeks ago I got a tube of Weleda's Skin Food and I have been absolutely loving it.  Not much of a find if everyone has already found it, but it is seriously worth the hype.  HG product right there.

My latest television obsession // I caught up with Elementary yesterday, finished Breaking Bad two weeks ago, and now I need to finish Peaky Blinders.  Loving that Peaky Blinders.

My latest favorited photo on instagram // Tanya Burr is pretty cool.

My most recent expensive purchase // I bought three items of clothing from Pin Up Girl clothing last month and I love each thing, but it was definitely way more money I usually spend.  I should post photos of them within the next two months, once I move!

My last film seen in the theatre // There's an indie theatre called The Screening Room in Buffalo and during March they were showing Aliens.  Seriously amazing.  It's a completely different experience seeing that movie in the theatre in comparison to on my laptop, which is how I originally watched it.  I was so tense!!

My last listened song on spotify // Talk to Me by the Pleistocene's.  I saw them opening for Screaming Females on Saturday and they were really great.

BIG BROWN-EYED ZOMBIE BOY

Something I've been enjoying recently is the British TV show In The Flesh.  It's so good!  I basically devour any sort of apocalyptic or zombie media there is (ha ha), so this show is non-exempt.  I discovered it when people started really promoting the show online, as it's in danger of being canceled!  The horror!

The show begins after the zombie uprising, and we see the risen dead (diagnosed with PDS, or Partially Deceased Syndrome) medicated to keep them from returning to their rabid state.  They are discriminated against because of people's prejudices, and their lives parallel many a minority's, in the way that these sorts of stories do (see: X-Men).

The show is really fantastic.  All the characters are amazing, from the smallest minor character to the main ones.  Each character also has massive amounts of character development from episode to episode, and they all have their own story and are given screen time.  One would think it may get sloppy or unnecessary, but it really works!  Every episode leaves you on the edge of your seat, and the writing is great.  I especially love that the main character is some sort of sexuality other than heterosexual, and it's not something that's ever really brought up in a negative way.  Cool!

Overall, I totally recommend this show.  It also got me to finally draw something again, so that's exciting.

LOVING RECENTLY

Greetings!  I've had a lovely spring break so far, but I have been lacking on my usual posting scheme, so I thought I'd just let you in on a couple of articles and videos I've been loving recently.  These, of course, have no rhyme and reason, so enjoy the wide range of actives I get up to on the internet!

A super cool article on how Wes Anderson's characters only move on the horizontal or vertical plane, never diagonally.  I'm so hyped to see The Grand Budapest Hotel!
A very sweet and heartfelt letter from a father to his daughter.
TELEVISION // Mad Men
I've bitten the bullet and finally started watching Mad Men again!  I started a while ago and just didn't get hooked, but I started again since I was done catching up with Elementary (also another fantastic show) and now I am totally hooked.  Hopefully I don't get bored like I've heard a lot of people did towards season three.

An amazing look at intimacy between two human beings.
A perfect way to reflect on your day and place in the world.
I've just been loving the Free People blog recently!

VIDEO // Grizzly Bear Caught On Camera by KickThePJ
One of my favorite youtubers.  Never fails to cheer me up with his amazing & hilarious video ideas.
Absolutely obsessed with Into Mind's wardrobe building posts recently.  I'm planning on doing a post about building my own wardrobe soon.
GENERAL // Wardrobe Planning
After discovering Into Mind's blog, I've been thinking a lot about refining my personal style and creating a definitive wardrobe where I can pull out any item and love it.  It'll definitely take a little while, but now that I've thought about it, I know what I'm looking for.  With the help of pinterest, the journey has been a little easier.
I hoped you liked that little peek in to what I've been enjoying recently!  I think I may just go and watch more Mad Men now....

OLYMPICS IN REVIEW

So, the Olympics are over!  I know this post is late, but I haven't been able to find time to really focus on it until now.  But, wow, weren't the olympics awesome?  This is the first year I watched away from home and it worked out pretty well!

I was mostly only able to watch in the evenings due to class and work, so I only really saw the primetime and what was considered okay for prime time (no curling, sadly).  Therefore, I watched boatloads of ice skating, almost to the point where it began to bore me a bit.  I also watched the snowboarding, some skiing, and the biathlon.  Still don't know where the concept of the biathlon came from.  So, I figured since I enjoyed watching the olympics so much, I would do a little post talking about my favorite athletes and moments!

The thing that made an impact on me the most was ice skating/dancing, since I watched that the most.  I definitely had favorite teams and competitions.

I loved the Russia skating pair of Tatyana Volosozhar and Maxsim Trankov.  Their dances were always devine, their skill fantastic, and their connection palpable!  I loved watching them skate.  None of the videos of the actual performances are on youtube right now, but as soon as they are I recommend checking them out if you didn't see them!

Of course, I loved Meryl Davis and Charlie White.  They absolutely stole the show with their wonderful skating.  I think that the NBC commentators kind of beat a dead horse with their continuous mentioning of how long the two of them had been partners, but I think it's really cute that they had been skating together for that long.  Their ice dancing performances were by far my favorite!

The rest of the skaters were absolutely lovely.  Kim Yu-Na was elegant, Evegni Plushenko was powerful and stunning.  My friend Janet's favorites, French duo Nathalie Péchalat and Fabian Bourzat, definitely put on a fantastic show.  The Canadian duo Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir were also absolutely lovely.  Overall, amazing!

Last but not least, I just had to mention the cutie that is Iouri Podladchikov in snowboarding.  Shawn White was talked up so much this olympics due to his performance four years ago, though his reign is now over.  Iouri was adorable when he won, talking non-stop about how much he admired and loved Shawn White (so much so, NBC cut him off in the middle of fangirling during an interview).  He was absolutely amazing, and totally deserved the gold.

I absolutely love the olympics.  It kept me from doing certian things, like watching certain TV shows or films or reading, but it only ever happens every two years so I think it's worth it.  I can't wait for the 2016 summer olympics!

MUSEUM OF THE MOVING IMAGE

Today I went to the Museum of the Moving Image with the boy.  We were both tired and didn't want to spend a day walking around Manhattan, so we decided to just go to Astoria and check out this museum.  We were pleasantly surprised!!

The museum was full of interesting things relating to film, from photographs to props, merchandise to video games, film cameras to televisions!  The museum covered the whole range of the moving image in every form.  I had such a great time looking at everything!

I took (snuck) some photos while walking around of most of my favorite pieces.  It's no surprise that I was drawn to the more artistic aspects, like sketches and models, rather than the actual cameras and tech things.

I apologize for the fact some of these photos aren't super great.  I was trying to be sneaky and take them without being caught by the guard, therefore I couldn't frame perfectly or take in to account the lights from the other exhibits reflecting on the display cases.  Enjoy!

These maquettes were for the movie The Wiz (which I haven't seen yet, but now I totally want to).  They were super detailed and lovely!!  The amount of care that went in to sculpting, painting, and applying extras to these guys was apparent.  My favorite was the crow.

Definitely excuse the blurry quality of this one, I was super excited.  These were some original Star Trek fanzines published during the eighties, once of them being, if I guessed right, a Kirk/Spock one!  Did you know that Kirk/Spock was the first slash pairing to ever have a super widespread following and published fan fiction?  They may be competing with Sherlock Holmes back in the 19th century, but I still think that it's pretty cool.  The amount of fan input in the Star Trek fandom was unprecedented.

Silence of the Lambs sketches.  It's kind of sad how all of these sorts of things are done on the computer now.

The actual miniature from Blade Runner.  You should have seen my boyfriend's face when he saw this, definitely his favorite thing in the entire museum.

We were also lucky to go during a time that they had an indie game exhibition running!  We went around and played most of the games, including minecraft of course.  There were also quite a few games that the boy knew about and pointed me towards, and I really enjoyed most of them.  I'll probably get around the playing them eventually, since most are listed on Steam.  The particular games I was interested in were Braid, Kentucky Route Zero, Dear Esther, and Machinarium.

I hope to be doing more of these posts in the future!  This week I'll be going to a lot of museums, since I want to show the boy around the city and see some things he hasn't seen.  It's a week of excitement!

Do you want me to do more of these sorts of posts?  Also, do you have any favorite indie games to recommend?
